Weekly Travel Specials for Week of March 23, 2009

Hi Everyone,

The first quarter of each year for the cruise lines is called Wave Season. Typically, the cruise lines run a host of promotions during this period as much of the year's bookings take place during this time. Wave Season 2009 will end at the end of this month so if you are thinking that a cruise may be in your future, this is a great time to book to take advantage of some of the promotions.

A few of the more interesting cruise promotions:
  • NCL will have a one day sale on Wednesday, March 26. You can save up to 79% on the cost of a 2009 cruise.
  • Royal Caribbean has partnered with Universal Studios and is offering a 3-7 nt. cruise in conjunction with a 3-4 day Universal stay either before or after your cruise.
  • Last week I told you about the wonderful specials on two luxury lines: Oceania and Regent. They are truly great deals.
  • Alaskan promotions are being offered by most of the major cruise lines.
Resorts
  • Marriott is offering a 4 nt. package starting at $349 at their resorts in St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, or St. Kitts. This includes air! They will also give you $100 off if it rains while you are there. Book by 3/22 for travel May3-October 31.
  • Atlantis is continuing their Super Spring Break Sale with rates from $499 for 4 nts. If you book an air inclusive package, they will also give you a $200 air credit. Must book by 4/30 for travel by 5/31.
  • Continental Airlines is offering an air/hotel package to Jamaica with a $300 savings. Book by 4/4 and travel by 9/30.
  • Caribe Royale Orlando is an all-suite hotel near Walt Disney World. It is a beautiful resort that offers great rates, excellent service, and complimentary shuttles to Disney. They are offering rates as low as $99 per night for a 1 bedroom suite subject to availability.
Las Vegas
  • MGM's latest promotion is $85 room rate with a $50 activity credit. Promotion runs until August 31.
  • Palace Station is offering special rates for 50% off.

Weekly Specials for Week of March 16, 2009

Hi Everyone,
I just returned from a Fuller Travel sponsored Girlfriend Getaway to Chicago where we enjoyed wonderful weather, made some great new friends, and experienced super shopping. Thanks to all of you who traveled with us. I hope you had a great time.

Cruise News:

Cruise passengers departing from US ports are now required to check in at least 90 minutes prior to their ship's scheduled departure time and anyone arriving later will likely be denied boarding. That's because cruise lines must submit the passenger manifest to the Department of Homeland Security for review at least 60 minutes prior to departure.

If you are flying to your departure port, consider the possibility of flight delays. Try to avoid booking the last flight that will make the scheduled departure time and if you are flying a long distance, consider arriving a day in advance. If you drive to your departure port, plan for rush hour, accidents or other situations that may snarl traffic on the way to the pier.

To be on the safe side, plan to arrive at the cruise pier no later than two full hours prior to the ship's scheduled departure time.

You've probably heard that Air Azul will begin operations in Lansing this June. Right now it looks as though they will offer flights to Baltimore and Newark at very low prices. Remember that both Baltimore and New York have cruise ports and are only a little over an hour away by air.

Carnival has a summer promotion that offers up to $240 back per person in onboard credits depending on the length of your cruise. Must book by 5/10/09 for select cruises between 5/24 and 9/4/09.

Princess Cruises is offering up to 2 for 1 pricing on some of their Alaskan sailings.

Holland America: Still looking for a spring break cruise? Cruise the Caribbean on a 7 day sailing from $549.

Celebrity is offering verandah cabins on their 4/5/09 Caribbean sailing for $799.

Royal Caribbean has a 5 nt. W. Caribbean next week for $359 and we're seeing 7 nt. W. Caribbean in the next two months for $649.

Remember that you must add taxes and fees to all the cruise fares.

Resort News
Atlantis Resort: This luxury resort in the Bahamas is offering a Super Spring Break Sale, Stay 4 nights for the price of 3. If you book an air-inclusive package they will also give you a $300 air credit. Book by 4/30/09 and travel by 5/3/09.

Future Vacations and Delta are offering a great vacation to the US Virgin Islands. They are offering a $300 air credit and a free companion air ticket when you book a package of 4 nights or more. They will also include a $50 dining coupon and a $50 attractions coupon. Book 3/15/09-10/15/09 for travel between 4/15/09-10/31/09.

Disney
Disney is beginning construction on two new cruise ships which will double their cruise capacity. The ships will be named Dreams and Fantasy.

The Dolphin and Swan Hotels located at Disney are offering a free night on your birthday if you book a 3 night stay. Remember Disney also offers free admission to the parks on your birthday this year.

Universal Orlando
Universal is getting ready to open their new Hollywood Rip Ride Rock It Roller Coaster. This new attraction reaches speeds of up to 65 mi. per hour and reaches a height of 17 stories above Universal Studios. If you are a coaster aficionado, this one's for you.

Celebrity: I saw a few great fares advertised by Celebrity this week:

Holland America is promoting their Alaskan cruises and the prices start at $399 for a 7 nt. cruise. May 17 sailing.

Royal Caribbean is offering a 5 nt. cruise, oceanview cabin for $549. sailing Mar. 28.

The luxury cruise lines, Oceania and Regent, are both offering great sales.

Regent is offering free air plus free shore excursions and some sailings have 2 for 1 pricing. Book by March 31.

Oceania has 2 for 1 fares and free airfare on some of their sailings. Again, you must book by March 31. If you've ever dreamed of trying one of these luxury lines, there is no better time.

Disney
Time is running out for Disney's big Buy Four, Get Three Free Promotion. Must book by March 29 for select dates until mid-August.
Many people have commented on their frustration with trying to book Disney rooms for a large family. There are several options to solve that problem but two of the best are the Cabins at Ft. Wilderness and the new Treehouse Villas located at Saratoga Springs Resort. Years ago Disney had Villas and they moved away from them. They are bringing them back and they are spacious. They have three bedrooms and sleep nine!

Hi Everyone,

I just received the following info regarding the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative:

New US Land and Sea Paperwork Rules Start June 1
"U.S. Officials announced yesterday that they're ready to enforce new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) rules for citizenship and identity documents at America's land and sea borders starting June 1. On that date, travelers must begin showing WHTI-compliant documents such as passports, passport cards, trusted traveler cards, and enhanced driver's licenses (British Columbia, New York, Vermont, and Washington State, at this time) to enter the United States.

Word to the wise: Get those passports!!
